Carnival Brings Joy and Celebration to St. Dominique
Carnival, or "Kanaval" in its native Creole, is the most significant and popular cultural event in Haiti. While the National Carnival, supported by the government was cancelled due to economics and health precautions related to COVID, St. Dominique celebrated in a big way. A three-day party that leads up to Mardi Gras Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, Carnival is a chance for Haitians to show their artistic and expressive side with parades, character costumes, plays and music.
